"But father, why do I have to go alone?" Tish frantically cried.
"Because, this is your mission and your mission alone." Tish looked into his stern glare, then sighed.
"How long do I have?"
"You have but a year my daughter." He looked down upon his only heir with grief and sorrow.
"A year? "That's awfully short father."  A hint of hysteria entered her voice as she finished her inquiry.
"Yes, which is why we must send you now, council members begin the chant!!!"
Suddenly hooded figures surrounded Tish and started chanting an ancient spell.
Tish unwillingly stood on the middle of the chanting councilors, with two belongings in hand; a signaling device, and her book of magic spells. As the chanting grew faster and louder, Tish slowly began to relax.  If she did manage to find her soul, her family would be saved. That thought calmed her and gave her the confidence she needed to enter this new world.
In a flash she was standing in the middle of a park next to a sandbox. Shaking with fear and excitement, Tish took in her surroundings with curiosity. A young man was sitting on the edge of the sandbox and was staring in surprise at the woman with cat ears and a cat tail who had appeared right before his eyes.
They glanced at each other for quite some time before Tish broke the silence.
"Hi my name is Tish."
The boy was stunned in silence but instead of running away in fear like most would, he walked up to the girl and held his hand out. "I'm Yamata Takeshi."
"Nice to meet you, Yamata."
She shook his hand and flashed a happy smile. Yamata was a little frightened by her sharp teeth, but dismissed it by continuing to shake her hand.
"So, what is this world called?" asked Tish, looking around.
"Umm, this is planet earth. Are you, a…"
"Alien?" she smirked.
"Yeah." he said slowly.
"Yes, i have come here to find my soul."
"Your soul?"
Yamata gave her a questioning look.
"A soul is like what you may call a soul mate."
Yamata blushed, then looked strangely at Tish. "Why would you need to find your soul mate?"
Tish gave him an equally strange look.
"On my planet, if you don't find your soul, you die."
After hearing this, Yamata looked stricken and gave Tish a pitying glance.
"Well do you know what he looks like?"
Tish gave him a loving look and squeezed his hand. "He is you."
Yamata's eyes widened to their extremes.
"How do you know I'm the one?"
She gave him a grin that could brighten anyone's day.
"I just knew when I saw you."
"Uh, um... uh." Yamata stuttered.
Tish looked up at his red face and reached out slowly to grab his hand. When she did, Yamata jumped.
"So i assume you have a place of residence around here somewhere?" she said slyly.
"Y-yeah."
Hand in hand they walked out of the park and onto a street side walk. Some people stared at Tish but others just ignored her.
After a quick walk through the city street, Yamata lead her into a decent sized house; perfect for a little family.
"Do you have any parents?" Tish wondered aloud.
"About that," he started, "they died two years ago in a car accident."
Looking down at her feet she only could mumble, "Oh."
Yamata turned towards her and casually replied,
"It's ok, so what about you?"
"Well, my father is the head of the world council, but my mom died when i was really little."
Yamata looked away and went to the kitchen taking out some pots and pans.
"What are you doing Yamata?"
He turned his head to her and gave her a toothy smile, "Making dinner, I'm quite good at it."
At this Tish looked at him strangely and confused.  "On my planet, only women do these kinds of tasks."
Yamata looked troubled by this but continued on and grabbed some veggies and chopped them up.
"Well here we earthlings are more diverse on our ideals and that means men and women are equals."
Tish's eyes widened and excitement glittered in her eyes.
"Well your planet is quite wonderful."
"Ha ha, you think so?" Yamata turned back to look at her.
She was staring at the table deep in thought.
He turned back around and finished cooking his curry. Once it was done, he poured it into two bowls.
"Here you go." he handed Tish a bowl, and she gladly accepted it.
They ate in silence for a few minutes before Tish finally broke the silence. "So, since you're my soul, when i activate my signal device, we can return to my planet together."
Yamata looked up at her worriedly, and hesitated before he finally said, "I don't think I can go with you."
Tish stopped eating, and set down her spoon.
"But you're my soul; you have to come with me."
"I just found out today that I am some alien's soul mate that has to travel with her to her alien planet. How do you think i feel? I have things i need to do here on this planet also."
Tish looked down, and her eyes scanned the table.
"I need you." She said at last.
Yamata sighed and picked up her now empty bowl.
"You need to understand; I still have school to finish and many more things I'm supposed to accomplish."
"Could you take care of everything you need to in a year?" she whispered back.
He gave her a longing look as he stared into her clear red eyes.
"I'm sorry, but i don't know."
Yamata turned back around and resumed washing the dishes.
Tish remained seated at the empty table, fighting back tears, and trying to think of a way to convince Yamata to come back with her to her planet.
Tish walked up to Yamata and wrapped her arms around him. He didn't resist but didn't comment on the intimacy either. Instead he continued to wash dishes.
"Yamata will you allow me to stay with you?"
He turned his head to look directly in her tear filled eyes, and in that moment fell for Tish completely.
He turned his head away to hide the deep blush that formed on his face.
"Of course."
"Will you come with me to my planet in a year's time?"
"Sure."
He heard a squeal from behind him and knew that she was happy.
Tish was overjoyed and started dancing around, humming a song from her homeland. Yamata smiled and finished up with the dishes and turned to admire Tish's dance.
Yamata laughed to himself softly, seeing as to how one word could make a girl so happy.
Once he was done watching her dance, he tiredly replied, "Well, I'm gonna go to sleep. Luckily I don't have school until the day after tomorrow."
"Ok!" a very over joyed Tish cried.
He led her to a guest bedroom, where he said, "This will be your room."
"But won't I sleep with you?"
Very taken back by the question, Yamata stammered out "N-no of course not! I just met you! I don't care if you're my soul mate, you sleep here ok?"
"Ok."
He left the room and Tish sat down on the little bed. She sighed heavily; once again lonely.
A few minutes later, Yamata came in to check on her.
"You'll be ok in here right?"
"Yeah." she looked up at him with a halfhearted smiled.
"Don't be sad. Soon we'll be on your planet and you can meet up with your father again."
She smiled back at his awkward self in the doorway.
"Night." she sweetly said.
"Good night." Yamata softly closed the door behind him. He walked into his bedroom and did the same.
He sighed, and slid down the door until he was sitting.
"What did I get myself into?"
He placed his hand over his eyes and began to think deeply.

Tish was laying down in the little bed, staring out the window at the stars. Thinking about the highlights of her day, and what was to come with her and Yamata. After about an hour, she couldn't stand the loneliness anymore.
She tip toed down the hallway into Yamata's bedroom where she listened to his soft, even breaths.
She carefully slipped into the other side of his bed, and looked over at his peaceful face. Her loneliness now gone; Tish was comforted by his presence. She fell into pleasant dreams soon after.
